J. Scott Kozacki was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and has resided in Florence since 1991. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Canisius College in 1987, where he was awarded the Lester J. Suess Scholarship and additional recognition in the field of criminal justice.
Mr. Kozacki attended both the University at Buffalo School of Law and the University of South Carolina School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1991. While in law school, he was awarded both S.S. Seidemann Scholarship and the L. Marion Gressette Scholarship and the highest Honors grade in the class of Law and Public Education, served as an Editor for the Buffalo Public Interest Law Journal, finished in the top 10% of participants in the Charles S. Desmond Moot Court Competition, and authored an article entitled Educational Malpractice: A Plausible Solution to the Current Crisis Facing America's Public School System.
The foundation for justice is laid by an attorney's knowledge, preparation, and presentation of the facts.
Mr. Kozacki moved to Florence and engaged in private practice, eventually founding his own law firm. His areas of special concentration and knowledge include: employment discrimination, sexual harassment, wage and hour claims, social security, employment law, wrongful discharge, unemployment compensation, worker's compensation, physician-related issues, and employee benefit claims. He is admitted to practice before all State and Federal Courts in South Carolina.
Scott has served as a guest lecturer on employment law matters for the Florence-Darlington Technical College and various civic organizations. He is a current or former member of the S. C. Bar Labor and Employment Law Committee, Workers' Compensation Law Committee, and the Law/Physician Relationship Committee. His civic involvement included volunteer work for the Institute of Faith and Justice, coaching youth athletics, and membership in the Florence Kiwanis Club.
Immediately prior to joining the firm, Kozacki served as Senior Staff Attorney to United States District Court Judge Terry L. Wooten, where he was responsible for researching complex legal issues and advising Judge Wooten.
Scott is an outdoor sports enthusiast who especially enjoys big game hunting and striped bass fishing. He is a current or former member of the National Rifle Association, Quality Deer Management Association, National Striped Bass Association, Wildlife Action, Midland's Striper Club, and Hogfield Hunting Club.
