Hugh L. Willcox, Jr. is engaged in an extensive general trial and real estate practice. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in 1967 and received his Juris Doctor there in 1971.
Hugh's grandfather, Fred L. Willcox, was one of the firm's founders. Willcox is a former member of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association and member of the House of Delegates to the South Carolina Bar. He holds membership in the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and the American Counsel Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and all state and local Bar associations. He has been recognized by the American Board of Trial Advocates, which made him a Fellow in 2001, for his extensive and respected trial work.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association and the Board of Directors of First Southeast Insurance Services. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Motel Associates which owns and operates two motels and four restaurants in the Florence area. As a result, he has been active in property and banking matters for a number of years, including having served as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
Mr. Willcox is an avid hunter and a member of numerous conservation organizations, including Ducks Unlimited, South Carolina Wild Turkey Federation, and Quail Unlimited. Willcox has long been an active member of the Florence Kiwanis Club, where he has served on its Board of Directors and as its President. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Florence Museum. He has also served on the vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church.
